We love the sun, but we also love our skin staying youthful as long as possible. It’s pretty well known at this point that the sun damages your skin and cause it not to age as well, but there are also so many benefits to getting sunlight daily that we think it’s much better to invest in a good daily face SPF instead of avoiding the sun like the plague. Now is the time to find your favorite skin protectant so that by the time the summer rolls around we can all be at the beach 24/7!
However, a big problem with sunscreen is that the toxins in most brands are really harmful to our oceans. The wash off is aiding in the damage to the coral reefs. So we wanted to help you be as smart as possible so that you can protect your skin AND protect the earth.
Here are our favorite SPFs that we’ve found with clean ingredients that don’t harm the coral reefs:
Fenty Skin
Fenty Skin’s Hydra Vizor Invisible Moisturizer Broad Spectrum SPF 30 Sunscreen is EVERYTHING. It ranks #1 on our list for a number of reason. It’s vegan, cruelty free, and free of toxins that harm coral reefs (doesn’t contain oxybenzone or oxtinoxate). On top of that, it has a refillable cartridge so that you’re eliminating a lot of plastic waster. And to top if off, it feels like heaven on your skin. It’s so moisturizing, so smooth, not greasy at all, and smells unreal. This is what I (Cierra) use every single day!
Raw Elements
Raw Elements’ World Reef Day Stick SPF 30 is bound to be a great option because it’s a zero waste option! We love that. This isn’t one that you wear every day with moisturizer like the Fenty option. It’s a bit thicker and one that you would use when you know you’ll be outside for a prolonged time. It’s water resistant for up to 80 mins and reef friendly!
cocokind
Cocokind has a great daily moisturizer/SPF option. It’s broad spectrum SPF 32 and all of the reviews are raving. A pro of this option is it protects against the sun and on top of that protects against blue light! Perfect for if you work at a computer or are on your phone all the time. Like all the others, it is safe for the coral reefs.
Ao Organics Hawaii
Ao Organics’ liquid reef-safe sunscreen is a great option if you love a liquid instead of a stick like Raw Elements. It’s more like Raw Elements in that you only use it when you’re going to be outdoors for a long time as opposed to daily. It contains nourishing oils to keep your skin soft and smooth even after a long day in the ocean. It’s so gentle that it’s a great option for sensitive skin!
